Nancy L. Burt, CFLS*
Nancy Burt, a Certified Family Law Specialist* since 2010, is a Partner in FMBK’s Family Law Department. She is experienced in handling complex family law litigation, with a particular emphasis on contested child custody matters.
While a seasoned litigator, Ms. Burt focuses much of her practice on mediation and settlement, taking great pride in her ability to resolve the vast majority of her cases — even those involving highly complex financial and custody issues.
For over 25 years, Ms. Burt has earned her clients’ trust by providing patient, supportive, and highly practical legal guidance. She is known for:
- Clearly analyzing the costs and risks involved in each case
- Offering comprehensive, informative initial consultations
- Helping clients make confident, well-informed decisions
Ms. Burt graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCLA with a degree in Political Science and earned her J.D. from the University of San Francisco.
While in law school, she:
- Published “Sex Discrimination: Isbister v. Boy’s Club” in the University of San Francisco Law Review (1985)
- Assisted Hon. Robert Weil (Ret.) in editing the Rutter Group: California Practice Guide – Civil Procedure Before Trial
Before joining FMBK, Ms. Burt practiced at Coleman-Schwimmer & Warren, focusing primarily on complex family law litigation.
She also leads FMBK’s Summer Law Clerk Program, reviewing over 200 applicants each year to mentor and train the next generation of skilled family law professionals — a project she considers a vital contribution to the future of the California family law bar.
